Your Personal Training Assistant for Logos 4

Facing the Learning Curve
To get more out of Logos Bible Software 4 (Logos 4) it takes time, hands on time! The learning curve can be daunting.

You could learn on your own, read the help file and figure things out on your own. You could go online and take advantage of the free online videos. Then there are training manuals and even costly training seminars. So many choices, but which is truly best?

Learn by Doing
Training should train, and nothing is more effective than hands-on training. But getting to a hands-on seminar can be difficult and costly. And unless your best friend is a Logos expert, your training options are limited.

Until Now!
Interactive training has arrived! That's right, you can interact with the Bible software program for a superior training experience.  Left click, double left click, mouse hover, and even enter text! It's like being in the program with a personal training assistant!

Christmas Special
The training videos include 55 videos, with 5+ hours of interactive training. Training time may vary from one person to the next, depending on the speed of interaction.  They also have at their website a sample interactive training video! The training CD retails for $39.99, but the Christmas Special is $19.99.

God: Created, Moving, Said, Saw, Separated, Called, Made, Placed, Blessed, Created

Seeing the big picture requires one not to miss the small details. Logos 4 makes this easier with their Word Tree visualization inside their passage analysis report. For example, when we look closer at the details of the creation account of Genesis chapter 1, we see God at the center of the events. And as you can see in this visualization, He alone is Creator by this sacred and revelatory text.

How did I get there in Logos 4: Tools > Passage Analysis > Word Tree  > Genesis 1 > God > NASB95

Burgers and Bible Study

Burgers and Bible Study

Have you ever enjoyed a delicious In-And-Out Burger? You can get these amazing burgers in only 4 states (California, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona).

As I was enjoying a double-double (that is double cheeseburger) and slurping up a chocolate shake, there before my eyes on the bottom of the shake cup, I discovered a Bible verse: Proverbs 3:5!

With my iPhone Logos Software in hand, I entered Proverbs 3:5 in the passage guide and discovered 5 other cross references (Psalm 37:3, Psalm 37:5, Pr 22:19, Jer 9:23).

Now that's a double-double! Burgers and Biblestudy!

How to Compare BIble Translations at 32,000 FT

...I am currently flying to LA, so with my laptop and Delta Wireless, I can post this blog!

Early in 1995, about 6 months before God granted me repentance and faith, a friend gave me my first Bible: NIV (New International Version). After reading it for 6 months, I repented and believed.

Soon I started attending church and realized the NIV was not the only Bible translation (I was really un-churched!) So I headed to the local Christian Book store and picked up a parallel Bible. Do you have one of these? Big, heavy, and limited (only 3 to 5 translations)…not exactly the kind of Bible you take to Church. In the days ahead, this was the most efficient way to compare Bible translations.

Well…I sold that book!

Why?

Text comparison…the L4 way (Logos 4).

With this tool, I can pick from over 20 English Bible translations. But more importantly, I can do more with L4! Logos will show me the ‘word’ differences. I can see which words were added, subtracted, and even if a phrase was re-arranged. You can't do that in paper! (well you could with a lot of work and ink!)

Now if you like working in the Hebrew and Greek, you can compare at the original language level. In fact, in the Greek you can see the difference between Byzantine Text, NA27, UBS, Textus Receptus, Wescott Hort, and even some of the papyri!

Oh one more thing, you can link your text comparison tool to your bible, so that when you change verses, you can view and compare your favorite translations instantly!

Are you convinced and ready to sell that paper parallel bible?
Note: If you are part of the King James Only Camp, then this is a must have tool!

By the way, the window blind is down and it is really hot! Can someone get me some bottle water!

The Bible Predicts Global Warming?

Regardless where you stand on the issue (see google news), the earth will be destroyed by global warming!

How can this be true – check out 2 Peter 3:10-14. Did you click on the link? If you have Logos will open to the book and verse. And this brings me to another handy feature in Logos 4, linking to books from a document or web site.

Step 1: Go to your favorite Bible and find 2 Peter 3:10

Step 2: Click on the resource panel (upper left corner that has the picture of the book)

Step 3: Choose from the menu, copy location, and choose URL

Step 4: Click ctrl + alt + c

Step 5: Select the text for which you want to link (I did this in MS Word) and press ctrl + k

Step 6: Paste the link into the address box

If you have the John MacArthur New Testament Commentary Series, check out this link

Now back to global warming, do you need to cut emissions..that's not for me to decide, but it is important to be a good steward.

But more importantly, and Peter’s point to that passage – Repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ alone!

Facilitate Serendipitous Discovery

I did not coin this term; Logos Bible Software did back in 2006. In fact, they made a cool t-shirt!
However, you and I can embrace this philosophy of adventure for Bible Study easily with a new feature integrated into Logos 4.

Go to the command line, type the letter 'f' and then select from the menu: Facilitate Serendipitous Discovery and voila! Logos 4 chooses (randomly or sovereignly depending on whether you are a 'Calvin' or 'Armenian') and opens a book for you to explore!

I’m related to Noah?

Noah is one of those amazing true stories in the Bible that has left an indelible mark on my heart and mind. It conjures up so many ideas: God’s Wrath, God’s Grace, Sin, Salvation, faith... – it truly defines the word “epic” and not even that movie 2012 comes close to the Genesis account of the world being destroyed!

And the story does not end in Genesis but is referred to again and again throughout the Bible. In fact, even Jesus recalls the event (Matthew 24:37-38, Luke 17:26-27). Did you know, the apostle Peter essentially calls Jesus our “ark” of deliverance (1 Peter 3:18-22)?

Are you still wondering how you are related to Noah?

In Logos 4, if you click on Tools > Biblical People > and type in Noah, you will get Noah’s immediate family tree. See below:

If you continue to click through the names, you can see all of Noah’s offspring. And since Noah and his family were the only survivors on planet earth, all of us are Noah’s descendents!

Unfortunately, the biblical record is limited and will not include all the details of your family lineage…but hey, it’s a great start!
